could you please help me I have been going crazy trying to find the theory that your dad came up with that Jodie Foster quoted in CONTACT you know the one about if you took all the planets in the universe and if 1% of those had water and 1% of those .I can't remember the hole thing and I would really like to find it I am trying to get my kids in to reading about your dads theories Pease help me Thank you JD5DAD@YAHOO.COM

Dave Dale: Sure, I'm happy to help. If I'm not mistaken, you're asking about the Drake Equation, which my dad was a great proponent of, but it was formulated by his good friend (and my godfather), the astronomer Frank Drake. Here's a wiki link:
