Despite one last unhappy turn (a diagnosis of anemia), after another trip to the hospital (for a blood transfusion) my mother's doing much better now. She's still in pain, but it's manageable, and she's feeling far more like herself. An encouraging sign. I'm relieved and looking forward to everyone's life returning to normality (or a reasonable semblance thereof.)
And that's a great birthday present as far as I'm concerned. Friends and family are taking me out to celebrate number 36 tonight. Should be a lot of fun. I'll blog again (perhaps with the Worldcon report) tomorrow, or possibly Monday, depending on how much I drink tonight. Cheers, everyone!
